Threats and problems of the wetland

Despite the great importance and value of wetland ecosystems, the life of these ecosystems are always threatened and endangered by numerous factors. Almost all the problems and threats of facing the wetlands are due to human activities in the margin of wetland or in its drainage basin area. Threats and problems of Nowruzlu wetland can be classified into three groups: economic, ecological and cultural factors.

Economic

  • Unauthorized cutting of trees
  • Lack of sufficient budget to perform protective duties
  • Unauthorized occupation of lands
  • Irregular grazing
  • Unauthorized extraction of sand
  • Mining in the surrounding areas of wetlands
  • Inadequate facilities to extinguish fires inside the wetlands

Ecological

  • Fire
  • Disposal of construction debris
  • Import of agricultural pesticides and wastewater
  • Washing clothes and cars
  • Illegal drilling of wells near and at the margin of wetland
  • Illegal groundwater extraction
  • Release of non-native species of fish
  • Discharge of industrial wastewater of production units
  • Discharge of domestic wastewater of settlements near the wetland
  • Illegal hunting and fishing

Cultural

  • Garbage disposal by tourists
  • Lack of tourist facilities and services
  • Lack of awareness of indigenous people regarding environmental rules and regulations
  • No environmental checkpoint
