Natural environments, especially wetlands, have countless different aspects to attract enthusiasts. Nowruzlu Wetland is no exception to this rule. In this wetland you will observe amazing natural landscapes depending on the season. It is true that the spring season of this wetland is enchanting, you can enjoy the autumn season with a millions of colors and countless reed beds that sometimes form a wall along the water. The continuous flow of large volumes of water can create an ideal landscape which can provide a pleasant atmosphere for a holiday. In spring and summer, the area of the wetland is green and covered with forest, reed, and grass vegetation. Different species of birds in these seasons give the wetland a beautiful view. In autumn, the meadows turn yellow and in winter, the wetland is often covered with ice.

Vegetation

The placement of Nowruzlu wetland in the middle of Miandoab plain and the existence of fertile lands and good soils have caused the wetland to be surrounded by agricultural lands. The area of the wetland is covered with vegetation and trees. Near the crown of Nowruzlu Dam, almost large parts of reed beds and meadow cover are visible. In general, having wetland conditions has caused a variety of plant and animal species in Nowruzlu wetland. Most of the vegetation in the protected area of Nowruzlu wetland consists of forest type tamarisk, woodland, and reed bed. Some species such as willow, ivy, oleaster tree and Populus are abundant in the area. Other species such as mulberry, tree of heaven, plane trees, etc. are rarely scattered in the area. Other aquatic and shore species, shrubs, fodder, rangeland, etc. are also abundant. Nowruzlu Wetland is home to a variety of animal species including mammals, reptiles, aquatic and shore birds, lands, fish and amphibians. Together with proper vegetation, it has created a complete food chain in the wetland. Therefore, as the wetland hosts rare and even endangered birds, the ecological importance of this wetland doubles. .

Animals


Mammals in the area include boars, wolves, jackals, foxes, rabbits, Eurasian otter, European hedgehogs, and types of mice.

In Nowruzlu wetland, a variety of aquatic and amphibian species live such as frogs, crabs, clam and prominent fish such as wels catfish, common carp, abramis, Bighead carp, Silver carp, Caspian kutum, Capoeta, Barbus, grass carp, Alburnoides bipunctatus, Bitterling, European bitterling.

The birds of Nowruzlu wetland can be classified in two groups:
Aquatic and shore birds: This group of birds are highly dependent on water resources for nutrition and reproduction and are adapted to aquatic environments. Different species of such birds can be seen in Nowruzlu wetland, such as geese, ducks, swans, pelicans, herons, egrets, bitterns, cattle egret, types of large white-headed gulls, ruddy shelduck, grebes, cormorants, coots, stork, sternidae, sandpiper, stilt, lapwing, etc.

Land birds: Although this group lives outside of aquatic environments and in land areas with a diverse natural appearance, they are surprisingly attracted to water. A small spring or atmosphere with the lowest efficiency, due to having rich food, provides the favorable conditions for drinking and feeding of most of the birds in this group. Among the land birds that can be seen in Nowruzlu wetland, we can mention types of birds of prey such as eagle, harrier, kestrel, hawk, Eurasian sparrow hawk, owl, Eurasian eagle-owl, etc. Likewise, non-predatory birds such as common cuckoos, cuckoos, magpies, hooded crow, rook, laughing dove, bee-eaters, rollers, Eurasian hoopoe, finches, starlings, wagtails, larks, woodpeckers, kingfishers, etc. also lived in the protected area of Nowruzlu wetland.
